New ideas strengthen solidarity with Cuba in Costa Rica

San Jose, Mar 11 (Prensa Latina) Bringing young people closer to the life and work of Cuban independence fighter Antonio Maceo (1845-1896) and his passage through this Central American nation is a priority of the Costa Rican Movement for Solidarity with Cuba, its directors announced on Monday.

The residents in the northern city of Nicoya, in Guanacaste province, will have the opportunity to learn about the settlement of Lieutenant General Antonio Maceo and a group of 100 Cuban families in La Mansion for about four years to organize the Necessary War in 1895, aimed to end Spanish colonialism in Cuba.

In a meeting to redirect the organization’s work and increase aid to Cuba, the Solidarity Movement was also set to study the thoughts of Cuban independence fighter José Martí (1853-1895), who visited Costa Rica twice.

To achieve that goal, Milagros Solís of the Yamileth López Bolivarian Circle told Prensa Latina that they will reach out to neighborhoods, the educational sector, universities, trade unions, and the people’s movement.

The idea is to strengthen with their new initiatives the virtual media and communication, in general, to inform about the progress and struggle of the Cuban people against Yankee imperialism.

They will also work and support the campaigns of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) and the Continental Network of Solidarity with Cuba and fair causes in actions to denounce the economic and commercial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, for more than 60 years, which hinders the progress of its society.

The movement’s ten organizations also seek to denounce the US occupation of the Naval Base in Guantanamo, Cuba, and to achieve Cuba’s removal from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT). This sanction, among other consequences, limits Cuba’s financial and economic life with the rest of the world.
