Transitional Council in Haiti makes headlines in Dominican media

Santo Domingo, Mar 12 (Prensa Latina) Dominican media highlighted the upcoming constitution of a Presidential Transition Council in Haiti and the announcement by Prime Minister Ariel Henry of the departure of his government after its installation.

“The government I lead is leaving immediately after the Council is installed, and will continue to settle day-to-day affairs until a prime minister is appointed,” he announced in a recorded message from Puerto Rico, where he has been since last week due to the impossibility of returning to his country for the time being.

Diario Libre published the Prime Minister’s decision, which comes hours after an agreement between political and civil society stockholders under the auspices of the Caribbean Community in order to establish a seven-member Presidential Council.

The newspaper pointed out that CARICOM and the United States were optimistic with the high-level meeting on Haiti, held in Jamaica on Monday, and assured that they have made progress towards a political transition in Haiti.

The Presidential Council would be made up of seven members, whose names will be announced in the next 48 hours, according to Mohamed Irfaan Ali, president of Guyana and CARICOM, as quoted by Listin Diario.
