Cuba to host Russian Film Festival in April

Moscow, Mar 23 (Prensa Latina) Cuba will host the Russian Film Festival from April 3 to 7, during which motion pictures by famous directors from that nation will be screened, Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova announced on Friday.

According to the minister, “Russian culture is appreciated in the Republic of Cuba, and new centers for studying the Russian language are being opened. That is why we are pleased to continue the tradition of showing our cinema in Cuba.”

Lyubimova expressed her hope that the Russian Film Festival “will introduce new motion pictures to a wide Cuban audience and contribute to the development of the partnership between the film industries of our countries.”

Elsa Antonova, general director of the Russian film company Roskino, pointed out that the Festival “will arouse great interest among Cuban audience.”

The program of the event consists of free screenings of films like the drama “Air” by Alexei German Jr, “Challenge” by Klim Shipenko, “By Will of the Pike” by Alexander Voitinsky and the comedy “Cheburashka” by Dmitry Dyachenko. They will be exhibited at Havana’s Yara and Acapulco movie theaters.

The drama “World Champion” by Alexei Sidorov, the melodrama “I Take a Step” by Olga Akatieva, and the disaster film “Bullfinch” by Boris Khlebnikov will also be screened.

The Russian films will be screened with Spanish subtitles. In addition, a special screening of the fairy tale “On Lucio’s will” will take place at the Russian Embassy’s cinema hall on April 5.

The Russian Film Festival, which is presented by Roskino and supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, has been held since 2020.

The Festival’s leading goal is to introduce foreign viewers to the diversity of modern Russian content, from feature films and TV series to animation and documentaries.
