Havana, March 23 (Prensa Latina) The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, asked the population to be cautious today in the face of the strong and persistent rainfall in the west of the country that caused damage to the electrical service.

Díaz-Canel pointed out in his account on the social network

“We are following the situation generated in the capital by the intense rains. Early on we met with the main directors of the province,” the president stressed on the platform.

During that meeting, it was learned there were preliminarily 26 total house collapses, 148 people were protected in state centers and 762 citizens self-evacuated at the homes of family and friends.

He revealed that among the most affected municipalities are Boyeros, October 10th, Cotorro, San Miguel del Padrón, Arroyo Naranjo, La Lisa and Cerro.

These territories experienced various levels of damage, including interruptions in the power supply, fallen trees and damage to infrastructure, according to the Cubadebate website.

After the meeting with main authorities of the country, the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the capital, Luis Antonio Torres Iribar, informed the press that the floods exceeded the forecasts and no loss of human life has been reported so far.
