French extreme-right remains in the lead for European elections

Paris, March 25 (Prensa Latina) The French party identified with the extreme right National Rally (RN) maintains a clear advantage for the European elections on June 9, despite the disqualifications it receives, a survey reflects today.

According to the survey by the French Institute of Public Opinion (IFOP) and Fiducial for Le Figaro, LCI and Sud Radio, the political force led by Marine Le Pen and with Jordan Bardella as the head of the list has 30 percent of the intentions of vote, one point more than at the beginning of March, a result that confirms the favoritism shown by the polls in recent months.

Behind, far away, the study places Renacimiento, the ruling party accompanied by Modem, Horizontes and the UDI, with 21 percent, two more units, while the socialists allied with Plaza Pública went from 9 to 11 percent in three weeks.

In the opinion of the general director of the IFOP, less than three months before the European elections, a debacle of the nationalist organization, heir to Jean-Marie Le Pen’s controversial National Front, seems unlikely, even if complexities abound in the current political scenario.

The ruling party with its main representative at the polls, Valérie Hayer, accuses RN of being close to Russia and of being basically anti-European, while the left criticizes him for his hostility towards immigrants.

The elections on June 9 will allow France to distribute the 81 MEPs that it will seat in the new legislature of the European Parliament (2024-2029), which will have 720 members.
