Silvio thanks Colombia for invitation, but rules out performance

Bogota, Apr 2 (Prensa Latina) Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodriguez thanked the Minister of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge Juan David Correa for inviting him to a concert in Colombia, but ruled out the possibility of performing on stage.

“I feel very honored for the invitation extended to me to give a concert in Colombia, a country of Our America of which I keep deep memories,” the musician said in his response message released on Tuesday.

However, he added that he has not performed for some time and is currently working on a pending project in the recording studio.

“Rest assure that I will consider your invitation, which also conveys the desire of President (Gustavo) Petro and the people of Colombia,” the representative of Cuba’s New Song Movement noted.

In his invitation letter, extended in March, Correa told Rodriguez that Colombia is undergoing an unprecedented change in its history.

He commented that part of his task as minister was “to propose collective spaces that will give new meaning to our atavistic experiences and allow us, through symbols, to believe that it is possible to defeat fear and dread and embrace the hope of a society that can overcome the idea of revenge.”

“Millions of Colombians grew up with your songs as you have been able to witness through your visits to our country,” Correa noted in his letter.

After the invitation became known, hundreds of Internet users in Colombia joined the call.

Images of Rodriguez, the lyrics of his songs and fragments of his most iconic presentations became viral on social networks until the musician’s name became a trending topic.
