During the first meeting, the Chinese chief diplomat highlighted the relationship of trust and mutual benefit between Beijing and Timor-Leste.

He also recalled that China was the first country to recognize the independence of that friendly nation in 2002 and to establish diplomatic relations.

Both sides expressed their commitment to strengthen cooperation in areas such as economy, technology, agriculture, investment, and human resources, and discussed the implementation of projects under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The Chinese Foreign Minister highlighted the close bilateral relationship and said that the two countries are “good comrades with united hearts and minds, good brothers with a shared destiny and good partners in common development”.

Wang recalled that this year marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership.

Beijing pledged to work together to strengthen the building of a China-Laos community of destiny, as well as to promote greater regional connectivity through projects such as the railroad between the two nations.
