In declarations to Semanario Universidad, the vice-minister of energy of the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) Ronny Rodríguez, explained the status of the initiative, aimed at reducing greenhouse gases, improving human and environmental health considering the fundamental premise that fuel prices must not be increased.
It also constitutes one of the actions to contribute to the decarbonization of the economy.
The vice-minister pointed out that Costa Rica already has a voluntary standard, which specifies the conditions of physical-chemical parameters for ethanol, with which the process can begin.
However, to have greater legal certainty when it comes to blending and imports, work is being done to transform this standard into a regional one to be approved in Costa Rica and at the level of the Central American Integration System (SICA).
Rodriguez indicated that this regional norm is well advanced and that it is in international consultation, so it would be definitive in the next months.
