Fatal days on Uruguayan highways

Montevideo, Apr 4 (Prensa Latina) So far this week nine people have been killed on domestic roads in six fatal accidents, it was reported on Thursday.

The accidents occurred in the departments of Maldonado, Artigas, Cerro Largo, Canelones and Florida, where several people were injured as a result of these crashes.

Among the victims was a 14-year-old teenager who was riding a motorcycle, according to press reports.

The fatal accidents occurred a few days after the release of the 2023 Accident Report, presented by the National Road Safety Unit (UNASEV).

In 2023, there were 422 traffic fatalities, nine fatalities fewer than in 2022, and the same number as in 2019, the report noted.

This is the lowest figure in the last 12 years, with the exception of 2020, when 391 crash fatalities were counted, with lower mobility due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Statistics leave an average of 35 crash fatalities per month. July had the highest number of fatalities (42), while March was the month with the fewest fatalities (28).
