Uruguayan voters’ registration defines internal elections

Montevideo, Apr 4 (Prensa Latina) More than 2.7 million Uruguayans are eligible to vote in the June 30 internal elections, according to the Electoral Court closing.

An estimated 2,766,323 could vote to elect the candidates for the October 27 national elections.

The number is relevant considering the ten percent of those registered in the National Civil Registration to set up the referendum for which the signatures are collected.

The deadline for submitting those signatures expires on April 27.

If the necessary signatures are obtained, those referendums will be held on the same day of the national elections.

Uruguay’s trade union PIT-CNT promotes one of those consultations to reform the Social Security Law, particularly the pension system.

The trade union proposes a constitutional amendment to set retirement at age 60, the minimum pension must be equal to the national minimum wage, and to eliminate the private companies that manage pensions.
