India’s leading opposition party presents its election manifesto

New Delhi, Apr 5 (Prensa Latina) The opposition party, the Indian National Congress (INC), one of the leading political groups in the country, published on Friday its manifesto with some of its electoral promises to try to win the upcoming general elections.

The document, presented by its leaders at the organization’s headquarters, reveals some of the actions the party plans to take if it wins in the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Parliament) elections, which will be held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1, 2024.

According to media reports, the Congress, as it is also known, has promised a nationwide socio-economic caste census and subsequent constitutional amendments about the issue.

The party informed that the Congress manifesto was prepared after consultations nationwide and receiving suggestions through e-mails and its website. Its working committee met in March to draft the document accompanied by INC President Mallikarjun Kharge and other leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi filed his nomination for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala on Wednesday to contest between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government candidate and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president K. Surendran, and the Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate Annie Raja.
