Nicolás Maduro invites AU to participate in presidential elections

Caracas, Apr 8 (Prensa Latina) The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, today extended “a cordial invitation” for the participation of a large delegation of companions from the African Union (AU) in the presidential elections on July 28.

This was revealed this Monday after the telephone conversation held with his Mauritanian counterpart and pro tempore president of the AU, Mohamed Quid Cheikh, in which they addressed issues related to the excellent bilateral relations, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs indicated in a statement. They also discussed close cooperation in multilateral forums and the electoral processes that will occur in both countries in 2024, he noted.

Maduro expressed his commitment to the “vigorous Venezuelan democracy,” while highlighting the importance of having the presence of international observers from that African bloc in the presidential elections, number 31 in 25 years of Revolution, as stipulated by the National Council. Electoral (CNE).

The note considered the African Union as the “most relevant multilateral organization on the continent,” of which Venezuela has the honor of being an observer country since 2005, he noted.

Venezuela reaffirmed the irrevocable will to continue consolidating relations of brotherhood and South-South cooperation with Mother Africa, a living legacy of Supreme Commander Hugo Chávez.

The relations of the Bolivarian Republic with the African continent “have a strategic character” and, in this context, the President of the Republic spoke with his Mauritanian counterpart, the statement stated.

The Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Yván Gil, reported days ago that more than 67 international electoral organizations from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe, and political, intellectual, academic and technical personalities will receive invitations for electoral support and deployment.

The day before, a delegation from the European Union arrived in Caracas that will join the CNE operation to learn in situ about the development of the electoral process, as well as the lists of all those registered as candidates and political parties, the head of the Electoral Branch announced this Monday.
