University of Camagüey boosts Cuba’s economic breakthrough

Camagüey, Cuba, Apr 8 (Prensa Latina) Towards becoming a reference center in Cuba, the University of Camagüey (UC) exploits its 14 lines of research to knuckle down to strategic development programs nowadays.

The UC, which has 46 programs endorsed by the National Accreditation Board, including 24 of Excellence, and with over a hundred national and international projects, focuses on industrial development, agricultural food and social sciences, even supported by the cutting edge technological advances such as Artificial Intelligence.

Precisely, the university played a significant role in the opening by 2023 of the Hebei Artificial Intelligence Institute in China, in which the Central University of Las Villas alongside the management of Yaite Caballero, director of the International Relations Office of the UC had been collaborating extensively.

For bolstering strategic sectors, the system of Municipal University Centers, extensions of the University of Camagüey, offer key careers, such as Tourism and Engineering.

The Nuevitas Center, located in the north of the province, is one of the foremost of its kind, with the largest manufacturing infrastructure, and where the 10 de Octubre Power Plant is located, in addition to one of the most pivotal port terminals in the country.

At a press conference, the UC’s Rector Santiago Lajes recognized that the accreditation process itself “facilitates the endorsement for the commercialization of diverse products, entry of fresh currency to the country.”

For that goal, the extension of letters of intent and agreements have further reached their counterparts through projects with institutions in France, China, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Mexico and even the United States.

Cuba needs university centers to build up the welfare and socioeconomic development of its population, so that is what the Cuban Government underscores, seeing the future driven precisely by science and education itself.
