China and the U.S. discuss escalation of tensions in Middle East

Beijing, Apr 12 (Prensa Latina) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed to the United States that the escalation of tensions in the Middle East is due to the spillover of the conflict in Gaza, an official source confirmed.

According to Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning, the chief diplomat underlined China’s position during a telephone call with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The minister expressed Beijing’s repudiation of the attack on the Iranian Embassy in Syria, and emphasized that the security of diplomatic institutions should not be violated and that the sovereignty of these two countries should be respected.

In the Foreign Minister’s view, the immediate priority is to quickly end the conflict in Gaza.

“China calls on all parties involved to effectively comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2728, immediately stop hostilities, and avoid a major humanitarian crisis,” he told Blinken.

Wang reiterated that China will continue its constructive role based on justice and contribute to the reduction of tension in the region.
