Ecuador reaffirms concern over tension in Middle East

Quito, Apr 14 (Prensa Latina) Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa on Sunday reaffirmed his government's deep concern for present tension in the Middle East following Iran launched dozens of drones over Israel.

On X, President Noboa assured they are keeping a watchful eye on Ecuadorian citizens in Israel, as well as other embassies in the region.

Earlier, Ecuador´s Foreign Ministry issued a statement detailing that the State of Israel has instructed all diplomatic missions of different countries about security and personal integrity provisions to be taken before this event.

However, the Ministry did not allude to the situation of Deputy Minister Veronica Abad, who serves as Ambassador for Peace in Tel Aviv.

Later, Abad made a statement on X and said that she is with her 19 and 16 year-old children in a bunker in Tel Aviv. The Deputy Minister said the Israeli Foreign Ministry has warned diplomatic delegations to go to or stay near shelters provided for such cases.

I have not received a single message of solidarity from the President, denounced Abad who reiterated that she has no security equipment or additional protection.

However, the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry refuted what Abad said and claimed that it contacted Abad directly and confirmed that she was fine and following instructions from the State of Israel.

Abad has remained silent on social networks since the capture of her son Francisco Barreiro, for the alleged crime of influence peddling in the Vice Presidency of the Republic.

Recently, the official declared that the arrest of Barreiro, on suspicion of influence peddling, was a blow against her.
