CARICOM is concerned about escalation of conflicts in Middle East

Caricom-Logo-1
Georgetown, Apr 15 (Prensa Latina) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) insisted Monday on avoiding destabilization in the Middle East and protecting world peace in the face of the escalation of conflicts with Iran's response to Israel's bombing of its consulate in Syria.

A press release issued by the bloc’s Council on Foreign Relations deplored the recent events in the region, called for urgent action by the international community, and underscored the consequences of military incursions for the entire world’s security.

The regional bloc called for an immediate cessation of hostilities between Iran and Israel, and urged both parties to refrain from taking further steps to aggravate tensions and adhere to dialogue to resolve their differences.

It also called on the United Nations Security Council to work on ending the conflict and providing humanitarian assistance to the victims.

Apart from CARICOM, other governments and organizations globally spoke out after Iran attacked Israel with dozens of drones and missiles in response to the attack on Tehran’s consulate in Syria, in which 11 people were killed.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani affirmed on Monday that the Islamic Republic’s maneuver was a necessary and proportionate measure due to the irresponsible behavior of Israel and the West.
