Havana, Apr 15 (Prensa Latina) Cuba and Vietnam focus their attention on strengthening economic-financial ties, a bilateral forum in Havana that is coming today to an end shows.

The 41st Session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Scientific-Technical Collaboration, inaugurated on April 11th, demonstrated the interest in strengthening links in terms of agri-food production, energy, tourism, and the biotechnology industry, among other key spheres.

Both delegations recognized the feasibility of promoting business investments, whose assortments satisfy the demands of the Cuban market and generate foreign currency income from exports to third parties, mainly in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean.

At the opening of the meeting, the Cuban vice prime minister and head of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Ricardo Cabrisas, highlighted his gratitude “for the understanding and sustained support of the Vietnamese Party and Government” during the most recent years, given the complex economic and financial situation that Cuba is going through.

Vietnam is Asia’s main investor in Cuba, as it maintains an active participation in the Mariel Special Development Zone and is, at the same time, an important supplier of rice for the population’s consumption, Cabrisas highlighted.

The Minister of Construction, Nguyen Thanh Nghi, in turn, ratified the support of the Government and companies of Vietnam to the Economic and Social Development Program of Cuba until 2030 in prioritized sectors and fundamental activities.

Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam, Tran Luu Quang, arrived in Havana on Sunday on an official visit that will last until April 16th and is scheduled to hold a meeting with Cabrisas, before concluding the deliberations of the Intergovernmental Commission.
