Poll gives comfortable lead to Dominican president in elections

Santo Domingo, Apr 18 (Prensa Latina) According to the results of a poll by CIES INTERNACIONAL, which was published on Thursday. 55.8 percent of Dominicans are leaning towards the ruling Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) with a view to the general elections in April.

The second poll carried out this year by the US company, between April 12 and 14, showed that the People’s Force (FP) is the second most preferred political group with 24.6 percent of potential votes, followed by the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), with 12.1 percent of followers.

CIES International specified that these are two independent samples: one at national level for which 1,200 people were interviewed, and a second one which included 48 people from the National District.

The poll also showed that if the presidential elections were held today, President and PRM Candidate Luis Abinader would win 55.6 percent of the votes of those polled, while Leonel Fernandez would be supported by 25 percent, and Abel Martinez by 15.2 percent.

CIES International Director Andu Abreu said that Abinader’s lead is comfortable and no change is predicted that could change this scenario for the time being.
