Belize pleased with biggest arms bust in history

Belmopan,Apr 19 (Prensa Latina) Belize´s Home Affairs Minister Kareem Musa praised the police for making one of the biggest busts of high-powered firearms in the history of the nation as discussions continue at the Cabinet level on whther to extend a state of emergency that expires coming Friday.

Mr. Musa confirmed the successful bust conducted by the Special Patrol Unit on an island off the coast of Belize City and called it “the largest bust of illegal weapons”, along with a significant amount of cannabis and cocaine.

The Belizean Government enacted a state of emergency as of March 26 in several areas south of Belize City and specific areas in response to a worrying upsurge in gun-related violence, with 26 murders reported since the onset of 2024, up from last year’s tally of 19 during the same period.
