CARICOM is confident about political advances to solve Haitian crisis

Georgetown, Apr 26 (Prensa Latina) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is confident that the installation of the Presidential Transitional Council in Haiti will result in consensus and lead to a solution to the chaos, aggravated by the actions of gangs.

For the integrationist bloc, the formalization of this body is a significant achievement in a process led by the Haitians themselves, and at the same time it is an opportunity to draw the road map that will lead to the return of a constitutional government, stability and sustainable development in Haiti.

While noting the challenges ahead for the work of the Council, CARICOM referred to the Council’s commitments and stressed its willingness to accompany the Council in its efforts to restore order and the proper functioning of public institutions in the country.

“The inclusive and representative nature of the Council, which has no precedent in Haiti, is in itself significant. The Community wishes the Council great success as it embarks on a historic task for the good of the people,” the Caribbean group concluded in a statement.

The Haitian body is in charge of electing the next prime minister and cabinet, and was formally installed on Thursday, a few days after negotiations on the definition of its nine members were concluded.
