Cuban authorities insist on seeking economic solutions

Havana, Apr 29 (Prensa Latina) The latest meeting of the Council of Ministers of Cuba reviewed economic and social issues to find solutions, according to a press report published on Monday.

The Granma newspaper noted that solutions were analyzed at the meeting, with emphasis on the implementation of Government’s Projections to correct distortions and re-boost the economy in 2024.

According to the meeting, 188,197 producers were hired, just 50 percent of the total landowners in the country, until March.

The report noted that continuing to do things that allow improving the quality of life of Cubans is not a chimera.

It pointed out in this regard that the proof of this is in those places where people take advantage of the potential and seek solutions constantly.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, who is also a member of the Political Bureau, reflected on these ideas at the latest meeting of the Council of Ministers, which was chaired by the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (PCC) and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, the newspaper pointed noted.

Marrero considered the impossibility of achieving the best levels of production or performance, but it is possible to advance if collective intelligence is exploited to the maximum.

In this regard, the first deputy minister of Economy and Planning, Mildrey Granadillo de la Torre, said that in compliance with the approved schedule, from March 23 to April 19, work was done primarily on projections with an impact on the reduction of the fiscal deficit.

She indicated that the work also focused on the relationships between the different economic stockholders, food production, the price policy and the strengthening of the socialist state enterprise.

Likewise, the conciliation process on the criteria on the Draft Business Law was concluded, and the constant monitoring of the implementation of projections on social programs was maintained.

Also coinciding with the closing of the first quarter of this year, Minister of Economy and Planning Joaquín Alonso Vázquez presented a report on the behavior of the main indicators of the Economy at the end of March.

He said that, in general, an unfavorable outlook appears, since the income from exports has decreased, imports also decreased, and different key economic activities are not fulfilled, such as the country’s main agricultural production, sugar and byproducts, as well as power generation.

Faced with this reality, Alonso Vázquez drew attention on the need to take actions in all organizations and institutions, business systems, and territorial structures to reverse these indicators as soon as possible.

In the final considerations of this ordinary session of the highest body of the Cuban Government, the prime minister insisted on monitoring and promoting social policies, despite the country’s complex situation.
