United Nations Tourism for the Americas meeting opens in Cuba

Varadero, Cuba, Apr 30 (Prensa Latina) The 69th meeting of the United Nations Tourism Regional Commission for the Americas (CAM) opened in this resort on Tuesday, as a forum to discuss the trends and prospects of international tourism in the region, other things things.

A few days before the 42nd edition of the International Tourism Fair, FITCuba 2024, to be held from May 1 to 5, this CAM edition, which is taking place in Cuba, is attended by executives from the sector worldwide.

Participants will gather at the Meliá Internacional Hotel in Varadero, in western Matanzas province, and Gustavo Santos, regional director for the Americas, will present the report Panorama of Trends and Prospects of International Tourism in the Region, as well as some keynote speeches.

According to the regional organization, the Americas have recovered 90 percent of their pre-pandemic levels by 2023, with a strong intra-regional demand, increased connectivity, and a solid US tourist-issuing market that has benefited the Caribbean and Central American destinations.

However, it faces hardships and uncertainties caused by global and regional crises and challenges, including geopolitics, climate, economy, employment, security, or health, which hinder progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

FitCuba 2024 will be held in Jardines del Rey from May 1 to 5. This time, it will be dedicated to Latin America and the Caribbean, and will focus on tour operators and travel agents of the region and the world interested in studying the progress of the industry in the country and its link with the rest of the area and nations interested in being present.
