Cuba demands Palestinian membership to UN

Havana, May 2 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Thursday demanded the State of Palestine to be full member of the United Nations.

In his closing remarks at the International Meeting in Solidarity with Cuba and against Imperialism, he reiterated that “we cannot be indifferent to the daily crime that for 75 years has been committed against the brotherly Palestinian people”.

Díaz-Canel stressed that nothing can justify the brutal Zionist escalation in the last six months, the grave violations of international law, and the crimes that have turned a strip of inhabited land into bloody training camps.

The Cuban leader indicated that the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) must fulfill its mandate and put an end to the impunity of Israel, the occupying power, before the questionable credibility of its resolutions, besieged by the US veto, ends up disappearing in the rubble of Gaza.

The head of state recalled that Cuba has always been in solidarity with the Palestinian cause and at present hundreds of students from the Arab country are studying in Cuba.

“We have told those young people that they are also children of Cuba and that all Cubans feel like fathers and mothers of those young Palestinians who study with us, who also share the daily life of the Cuban people,” he stressed.

During his speech, the Cuban president also expressed his solidarity with the causes of the Saharawi and Syrian peoples.

Likewise, he expressed his support for the young people who are demonstrating at US universities.
