ALBA-TCP condemns Argentina’s decision on TeleSur

Caracas, May 7 (Prensa Latina) The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) on Tuesday strongly condemned the Argentine government's decision to shut down TeleSur's signal from the Open Digital Television grid.

The regional integration bloc expressed in a statement that this “action attempts against the voice of the peoples around the world and undermines the right to inform and be informed”.

This decision shows the double standards of the Argentine government, which rhetorically boasts about the significance of freedom, while, at the same time, it curtails the freedom of speech of millions of citizens.

The ALBA-TCP member states indicated that TeleSur was created “to promote the dissemination of the realities of the peoples of the South” in their processes of integration and shared development.

They added that over the years, TeleSur has become “one of the most respected and consulted sources of information” in the American continent and around the globe.
