Russia explains need to carry out nuclear exercises

Moscow, May 7 (Prensa Latina) The nuclear exercises will be Russia's response to the worsening of the situation in Ukraine by the West, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitri Peskov said on Tuesday.

Western representatives declared their willingness and even their intention to send their armed forces to Ukraine, sparking a new round of unprecedented tension, the Russian presidential spokesman told reporters to explain the preparation for the upcoming nuclear exercises.

Peskov added that such actions by some Western nations require special attention and special measures on the part of Russia.

The vice-president of the Russian Security Council, Dmitri Medvedev, in turn, wrote on his Telegram channel that preparations for the exercises began amid calls from “a chorus of irresponsible scoundrels among the Western political elite” to send their troops to Ukraine.

According to Medvedev, sending Western forces to the territory of “former Ukraine” will imply the direct entry of their countries into the war, to which Russia will have to respond, and not on Ukrainian territory.

“In this case, none of them will be able to hide, neither in the Capitol, nor in the Elysee Palace, nor in 10 Downing Street. A global catastrophe will occur,” Medvedev predicted.

The Russian General Staff, on behalf of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Vladimir Putin, began preparations for the exercise, in the context of which they have planned to practice deploying and employing non-strategic nuclear weapons.
