DRC government issues recommendations due to heat wave

Kinshasa, May 9 (Prensa Latina) The Ministry of Environment and Rural Development of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has issued a series of recommendations to the population due to a heat wave that is affecting the country.

After several weeks of temperatures of up to 39 degrees Celsius in the capital and other Congolese cities, the Ministry issued a press release urging citizens to stay well hydrated during this period and avoid drinking alcohol and other carbonated beverages.

The press release stressed the importance of minimizing exposure to the sun, suggesting using hats, light-colored clothing, and sunglasses and limiting outdoor activities during the maximum heat period.

Another recommendation was the protection of people in vulnerable situations, such as pregnant women, senior citizens, children, and those suffering from chronic diseases.

The Ministry stressed the importance of planting trees to reduce the magnitude of these events in the future and called on citizens to plant a tree every month to help mitigate the effects of climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and improving air quality.
