Media reports increase in US-Cuba flights

Havana, May 9 (Prensa Latina) Media reports on Thursday have shown an increase in air travels between the United States and Cuba.

According to an article published in Granma newspaper, one of the objectives of American Airlines’ participation in the recently held International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2024, May 1-5) was to advance in the growth of air connectivity between Miami and Cuba.

American Airlines representative in Cuba Ramon Jimenez explained that the airline -one of the biggest ones in the United States and the world- is currently working on several projects related to airport facilities.

He added that the goal is to achieve an efficiency that allows sustaining operations effectively.

Proof of this is that in 2023, with the support of Corporación de la Aviacion Cubana S.A. and Empresa Cubana de Aeropuertos y Servicios Aeroportuarios, a 90-percent check in time of passengers and aircraft (TPT) was achieved, thanks to the rapprochement between the parties.

He noted that 2023 was a year of consolidation, with 83 weekly flights from Miami, with direct connectivity to Havana, Varadero, Santa Clara, Camagüey, Holguin and Santiago de Cuba, operated mostly by Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A319 aircraft.

The executive said that they managed to lift almost 5,000 flights from Cuba to the United States at the Miami hub airport -a global strategic connection point- and transported more than half a million passengers on that route.

These figures, he assured, are close to those achieved in the pre-Covid-19 years, particularly in the South Florida market.

American Airlines has its main base in Fort Worth, Texas, and flies to more than 250 international destinations from several of its hubs, mainly Dallas, Miami, Philadelphia, New York and Charlotte, the message concludes.
