President Noboa ratifies decision to raid Mexican Embassy in Quito

Quito, May 9 (Prensa Latina) Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa revalidated the decision to raid the Mexican Embassy to Quito to prevent "them from taking away a fugitive from justice," in reference to former Vice President Jorge Glas.

At a ceremony on Wednesday in Guayaquil, where Noboa decorated police officers for acts against organized crime, the president ratified his decision to break into the diplomatic headquarters by force because, according to him, this way “Ecuador was respected before the world.”

The raid on the Mexican Embassy on April 5 was condemned by the international community and Ecuador is facing a lawsuit from Mexico at the International Court of Justice for violating diplomatic conventions.

Noboa pointed out that in the last few days his Government has received many attacks “for unmasking a corrupt service in the prisons, where weapons, drugs and explosives appeared magically, and the presence of criminal structures in front security companies.”

The head of State referred to the LaFattoria Company, in charge of food delivery to prisons, which was denounced for alleged links with organized crime, while 11,000 inmates have not had access to food for over a week.

“Nowadays, we can say that the campaign began on February 6, because all those who failed in the past and want in the future to be where we are, have already started to attack,” Noboa said in relation to the 2025 presidential election.
