Nicaragua backs up Afghanistan after floods

Managua, May 14 (Prensa Latina) The Nicaraguan Government expressed on Tuesday its solidarity and condolences to Afghanistan following the floods that have left hundreds of deaths and caused economic damage.

In a statement sent to the supreme leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Nicaraguan Government noted that as a human family they are dismayed by the tragic floods.

‘We wish to express our heartfelt solidarity, condolences and prayers for the people who have lost their lives in this time of disaster, as well as our steadfast willingness to maintain fraternal communication between our peoples and governments,’ he stressed.

The text added that the Nicaraguan Ambassador to Iran Ramon Moncada delivered this message, which is of great significance for those who understand that sisterhood between the nations, and working and struggling families worldwide is indispensable to continue in the construction of peace in dignity and rights.

‘From Nicaragua, always blessed and always free, our sincere respect, recognition and appreciation,’ he concluded.

Press reports unfolded the Afghan Defense Ministry declared a state of emergency because of pelting rains that destroyed over 1,000 houses in the northern province of Baghlan.

According to the head of the International Rescue Committee for Afghanistan, Salma Ben Aissa, the floods came after the country experienced a similar phenomenon in March, and less than seven months after it suffered a series of earthquakes.
