Honduras presents interoceanic railway project to CABEI

Tegucigalpa, May 15 (Prensa Latina) The private secretary of the presidency of Honduras, Héctor Zelaya, presented to the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) the interoceanic Railway project, considered an important factor in promoting the development of the country.

According to Zelaya, who chairs the project commission, the presentation of the initiative to CABEI was carried out in compliance with President Xiomara Castro’s agenda for the implementation of one of the most transformative programs promoted by the Government.

“Honduras is moving towards integration and development,” the official wrote on X after the meeting with CABEI authorities.

Information on the subject states that the construction of the railway will guarantee the well-being of present and future generations and will strengthen the economic integration system.

“We are going to fulfill the aspirations of the Honduran people by facilitating the movement of goods between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, which will place Honduras at the forefront of the offer of commercial transportation at an international level,” said Zelaya after a meeting held with representatives of the Government of Mexico in March.

According to the first estimates, the interoceanic railway in Honduras will cost about 20 billion dollars and its construction may take between 10 and 15 years.

In addition, the initiative foresees traffic of cargo trains with a capacity greater than 300 thousand tons and the transportation of 10 thousand containers in 24 hours.

Among the nations interested so far in developing the mega work are the United States, China, Italy, Spain, Japan, South Korea and Qatar.
