Al intervenir durante la Cumbre de la Liga de los Estados Árabes con sede en esta capital, el alto representante destacó el potencial de esas naciones en particular por sus recursos, cultura y gente.

No obstante, Guterres consideró la unidad como ‘una condición fundamental para el éxito en el mundo actual’.

‘Una y otra vez, la historia ha demostrado que las divisiones permiten que intervengan personas externas, promoviendo conflictos, avivando tensiones sectarias y alimentando inadvertidamente el terrorismo’, dijo.

El titular de Naciones Unidas lamentó el impacto del conflicto en Gaza al calificarlo como el más mortífero durante su desempeño como secretario general, tantos para civiles como para trabajadores humanitarios, periodistas y personal de la ONU.

Guterres rechazó además la ofensiva israelí en Rafah que podría causar ‘otra oleada de dolor y miseria cuando necesitamos una oleada de ayuda para salvar vidas’.

‘Es hora de un alto el fuego humanitario inmediato y de un acceso sin obstáculos a la asistencia humanitaria en toda Gaza’, reclamó el alto representante.
