Dominican president travels to the US two days before the elections

Santo Domingo, May 17 (Prensa Latina) Dominican President Luis Abinader, who aspires to re-election in the general elections next Sunday, reported today he will travel to the United States this Friday for personal reasons.

The dignitary, who last night closed his electoral campaign with a speech broadcast on television, and in which he interacted with Dominicans benefiting from government programs, wrote on his social network account X that he will attend the graduation of one of his daughters in that northern country.

The head of state stressed he will have to take two days away from politics to accompany his family and highlighted their generosity in giving him their time so that he can dedicate himself to the commitment that he shares with the Dominican people.

“My family has been generous in giving me their time to dedicate myself to politics, because together we share a commitment to the Dominican people, but now, I must take two days away from politics to accompany, as a family, my daughter Adriana,” he said.

The president also announced that he will return to the country tomorrow, Saturday.

There are nine candidates who aspire to the presidency of the Dominican Republic until 2028, but three have the greatest chance of winning.

These are the ruler Luis Abinader, of the Modern Revolutionary Party, whom the polls favor, and the candidates of the majority opposition groups, the Fuerza del Pueblo (former president Leonel Fernández) and the Dominican Liberation (Abel Martínez), the latter two in second place.
