Cuba decrees official mourning over Iranian president’s death

Havana, May 21 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel decreed an official mourning over the death of his Iranian counterpart, Ebrahim Raisi, effective from 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday until 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to an official press release, during his term as Iranian president since 2021, Raisi contributed decisively to the development and strengthening of relations of friendship and cooperation between both nations.

It added that the Cuban people and Government accompany Iran at this time of pain and express their confidence that the Islamic Revolution will continue and will know how to recover from this unfortunate event.

During the official mourning period, the Cuban flag must be raised at half-mast in public buildings and military institutions. On Monday, Iranian authorities confirmed the deaths of Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, East Azerbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati, and the Imam of the Friday Prayer of Tabriz (provincial capital), Mohammad Ali Ale -Hashem, in a helicopter crash.
