Kenyan delegation assesses future military base in Haiti

Port-au-Prince, May 21 (Prensa Latina) An official Kenyan delegation begins an inspection in this capital on Tuesday to assess where its troops will be located in Haiti.

The delegation from Nairobi aims to inspect the construction of a military base in Haiti in addition to the international airport in Port-au-Prince.

Members of a Kenya Police Reconnaissance Unit, the Rapid Deployment Force, and the Special Operations Group expect to arrive in Haiti on May 26.

An estimated 200 Kenyan officers will be part of the African contingent. Haiti Libre reports that many of these military officers fought the al-Shabaab terrorist group bordering Kenya and Somalia.

U.S. Ambassador to Haiti, Dennis Hankins, recently declared that the Kenyan troops will be the first to deploy in this capital in late May. Even though, Washington was the first to arrive in this nation with its soldiers and contractors, known here as mercenaries.
