Social organizations announce statement on government-elect in Panama

Panama, May 21 (Prensa Latina) Panamanian social organizations issued a statement on Tuesday on the government-elect, which will be headed by Jose Raul Mulino as of July 1.

The meeting is being held at the headquarters of the National Confederation of Independent Trade Union Unity in this capital.

According to the announcement, they will present a different vision of the announced public policies and the nominations of 14 of 17 ministers of State.

Jorge Guzman, one of the spokespersons for the Pueblo Unido por la Vida (United People for Life) alliance, told Prensa Latina that the new executive would defend a neoliberal model and the interests of the United States in the region.

According to Guzman, who is also the coordinator of the National Front for the Defense of Economic and Social Rights (FRENADESO), it is in the first announcements of the future president’s projects, such as closing the border with Colombia to stop irregular migration, among others.

The new Government is committed to private enterprise, transnationals, and business with State funds but also with the threat and persecution of those who oppose it, in this case, the popular movements that are once again called to demonstrate in the streets against the same outrages, he added.

“We are facing a country immersed in corruption because the current model is based on it,” Guzman said.
