Western strategy on Ukraine failed, Hungarian foreign minister says

Budapest, May 21 (Prensa Latina) The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijjártó, stated on Tuesday that the strategy developed by Europe and the United States regarding the conflict in Ukraine has failed miserably.

Szijjártó assured in a speech at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation that the maneuver as a response and reaction to the Ukrainian conflict has been completely unsuccessful.

“During the discussion of the first package of sanctions more than two years ago, I raised the question about the purpose of the measures, and the answer was to bring Russia to its knees economically and bring the war closer to an end,” Szijjarto recalled.

The official asked those present whether these objectives were met, and answered that they were very far off the mark, and that the European economy was hit by the effects of the sanctions against Russia, while the countries of Western Europe, which are very proud of having gotten rid of Russian energy resources, are actually buying them indirectly.

The foreign minister mentioned oil supplies as a problem.

“We are now discussing the fourteenth package of sanctions, after having previously failed thirteen times,” the Hungarian foreign minister stressed.
