EU and former US ambassador supporting Israel were criticized

Ramallah, May 30 (Prensa Latina) UN special rapporteur on human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, criticized the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and former US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, for their support to Israel.

“Women speak and I am proud. Not always. Sometimes I feel painfully ashamed,” Albanese wrote in X, sharing her comment with von der Leyen’s and Haley’s accounts.

The latter showed her support for the campaign of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government by writing “bring them down” on an artillery shell during her visit this week to northern Israel, near the border with Lebanon, according to images published in X by legislator Danny Danon.

Albanese is a staunch opponent of the Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip, which has caused more than 100,000 Palestinian deaths and injuries.

In recent months, the special rapporteur has repeatedly demanded an arms embargo and sanctions against Israel, while calling for the trial of its leaders.

Recently, Albanese assured that the war in the Gaza Strip will only end with external pressure. “Israel must face sanctions, justice, suspension of agreements, trade, associations, and investments, as well as its participation in international forums,” she estimated.
