French Senate decorates Cuban scientist

Paris, May 30 (Prensa Latina) French Senate President Gerard Larcher decorated Cuban scientist Vicente Verez on Thursday due to his contributions to relations between both countries, at a ceremony held in this capital.

At the headquarters of the upper house of Parliament, Larcher acknowledged Latin Americans from several fields in the context of the annual celebration of the Latin American and Caribbean Weeks on French soil, now in its eleventh edition.

Larcher stressed the importance of the award to strengthen ties between peoples and make them get to know each other better, the objective of a series of events that strengthen cultural, scientific, economic and political ties.

In his speech, the general director of the Finlay Vaccine Institute expressed gratitude for medal and stressed the value of cooperation.

Verez shared his experiences as a creator of vaccines that under the Soberana label helped protect the Cuban population, including its children, against Covid-19.

A poor country like Cuba took on the challenge of developing its own vaccines and succeeded, to a great extent thanks to the training I received in France and in Cuba, he said.

Verez, who was accompanied by Cuban Ambassador in Paris Otto Vaillant, also noted the spirit impregnated by the Revolution to make science to save lives, not to make money.
