The award was granted to the Iberostar Daiquirí and Iberostar Playa Pilar hotels, on Cayo Guillermo, on the occasion of the World Environment Day, for their use of sustainable models of production and consumption and circular economy.
The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) in Ciego de Avila praised both facilities for their progress in the development of environmentally friendly tourism, with emphasis on the replacement of single-use plastic, the optimization of the operation of water purification plants and the progress made in waste management.
They were also acknowledged for the use of solar heaters to reduce electricity consumption and ensure the availability of hot water for guests and in the disinfection processes in different service areas.
The general manager of the Iberostar Daiquirí hotel, Fernando Ortega, pointed out that the commitment is to increase the collection and commercialization of raw materials, according to the requirements of the Spanish hotel chain Iberostar Hotels and Resorts, in order to protecte natural resources and promote sustainable economic development in the region.
