Massive collision in Tanzania leaves dozens of victims

Accidente-1
Dar es Salaam, Jun 6 (Prensa Latina) At least a dozen motor vehicles were involved in a road accident left a toll of 13 deaths and 18 injured, in today's first count.

The number of lethal victims is provisional given the seriousness of some of the wounded, rescuers said at the site of the disaster, in the region of Mbeya (south).

Initial investigations into the causes of the accident, which involved three cars, an equal number of motorcycles, and several scooters, indicate that the driver of a transport truck lost control of the vehicle and collided with two cars.

Today’s massive accident in Tanzania is another of the disasters that every year plague African roads, both in the north and south of the continent, the magnitude and consequences of which are such that the World Health Organization (WHO) considers them an epidemic.

WHO studies have determined that the causes of accidents in African countries range from the poor state of the roads to the consumption of drugs and alcohol by drivers, as well as disobedience of traffic regulations and mechanical failures in vehicles.
