In a message addressed to the news media founded on June 16, 1959, the Sri Lankan leader described as an honor to be able to congratulate, on behalf of his party, the institution created by Ernesto Che Guevara under the leadership of Fidel Castro as a voice against media oppression.
Thilakasiri underscored the work of Prensa Latina in raising its voice against the socio-economic political operation carried out by what he called the Global North against the peoples of the South.
He also highlighted the role of the Latin American news agency in strengthening ties between Latin America and Asia.
The Latin American News Agency was the first alternative media of the American continent in the face of the great information monopolies.
In the midst of the disinformation avalanche against the nascent Cuban Revolution, its historic leader Fidel Castro called for Operation Verdad (Operation Truth) and, in the midst of that clamor to divulge reality, Prensa Latina was born, whose slogan yesterday and today continues to be “At the service of the truth”.

Felicita a Prensa Latina dirigente político de Sri Lanka
Colombo, 6 jun (Prensa Latina) El vicesecretario del Frente Democrático de Izquierda (FDI) de Sri Lanka, GVD Thilakasiri, envió hoy un mensaje de felicitación a directivos y trabajadores de Prensa Latina por las celebraciones de su 65 aniversario.
En un mensaje dirigido al medio de noticias fundado el 16 de junio de 1959, el dirigente esrilanqués calificó de un honor poder felicitar, en nombre de su partido, a la institución que creó Ernesto Che Guevara bajo el liderazgo de Fidel Castro como voz contra la opresión mediática.
Thilakasiri subrayó la labor de Prensa Latina de alzar la voz contra la operación política socioeconómica llevada a cabo por lo que llamó el Norte Global contra los pueblos del sur.
También resaltó el papel de la agencia de noticias latinoamericana en el fortalecimiento de los vínculos entre América Latina y Asia.
La Agencia Informativa Latinoamericana fue el primer medio alternativo del continente americano frente a los grandes monopolios de la información.
En medio de la avalancha desinformativa contra la naciente Revolución cubana, su líder histórico Fidel Castro convocó a la Operación Verdad y, en medio de ese fragor por divulgar la realidad nació Prensa Latina, cuyo eslogan ayer y hoy sigue siendo “Al servicio de la verdad”.
