Vietnam challenges European Union’s human rights report

Hanoi, Jun 6 (Prensa Latina) Vietnam challenged on Thursday the 2023 European Union (EU)'s Annual Report on Human Rights and Democracy in the World, which it said contains biased assessments that do not correspond to the existing situation in the country.

While reflecting some of Vietnam’s achievements and progress in human rights protection, the EU regrettably continues to make unobjective comments based on false and inaccurate information, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Pham Thu Hang pointed out.

Protecting and promoting human rights is a consistent policy of the Vietnamese State, which considers people as the center and the driving force of the country’s innovation process and socio-economic development and strives to improve people’s lives and to enjoy their rights, she noted.

Thu Hang stated that Vietnam’s efforts and achievements in promoting and guaranteeing human rights have been widely acknowledged and highly appreciated by the international community and recalled that the people’s rights and fundamental freedoms are recognized in the Constitution and the law, as their respect is ensured in practice.

The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman further reaffirmed her country’s willingness to exchange and cooperate openly with the EU on human rights issues to enhance mutual understanding through annual dialogue mechanisms and other bilateral exchange frameworks.
