The request was filed by attorney Karen Begonia Gómez in order for Glas to leave the maximum security penitentiary and be transferred to his mother’s house to receive adequate medical attention.

According to the lawsuit, Glas’ physical and mental integrity, since his imprisonment on April 6, “has been gradually deteriorating”.

Gómez warned that last April 8 the former official “attempted suicide” and there is a high risk that he will attempt against his life again.

That day – the document detailed – Glas was found unconscious in his cell, so he was taken by ambulance to the Military Hospital in Guayaquil, but then he was transferred to the Naval Hospital.

However, alerted Gómez, despite the fact that he had a precarious physical and mental health condition he was discharged and taken back to La Roca, “without having received specialized psychiatric care”.

“Today we know that the former vice-president tried to take his own life by means of an overdose of drugs,” the lawsuit warned.
