London, Jul 4 (Prensa Latina) Early parliamentary elections began in the United Kingdom on Thursday.

Polling stations opened at 07:00 hours, local time, and will close at 22:00.

In order to exercise their right to vote, citizens must show identification, which includes a passport or driver’s license.

However, 18 other types of documents will also be valid, including a discounted travel pass for senior citizens and people with disabilities.

A key element is that the document must bear a photograph of the owner.

Eighteen parties will participate in the elections, but the main race will involve only two of them, the Conservative and Labor parties.

According to estimates, the Conservatives, in power in recent years, might have a crushing defeat and the Labor will get an absolute majority.

Therefore, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak might become the first UK leader in history to lose his seat in Parliament.
