Chinese government congratulates new British prime minister

Beijing, Jul 7 (Prensa Latina) The Chinese Prime Minister, Li Qiang, today called for expanding cooperation with the United Kingdom in a message congratulating Labor politician Keir Starmer, after his victory in the British elections.

In the letter, the head of government of China stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral coordination and cooperation. He also noted in the document that both nations are permanent members of the UN Security Council and major world economies.

Li highlighted the benefits for the two countries and the international community, facing global challenges, by strengthening collaboration.

“The Chinese government attaches great importance to its relationship with the United Kingdom and is willing to work with the new British government to solidify mutual political trust, expand win-win cooperation, and promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges,” the message referred.

Li Qiang also supports both nations’ social and economic development and jointly promotes world peace, stability, and prosperity.

Starmer won his country’s general elections at the head of the Labor Party with a historic result, winning 412 of the 650 seats in the Lower House, according to the most recent provisional results.
