Former Israeli prime minister insists on overthrowing Netanyahu

Tel Aviv, Jul 7 (Prensa Latina) Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert today called on the population to overthrow the head of government Benjamin Netanyahu while urging to put an end to the war in Gaza and to call for national elections.

“Once Netanyahu falls, the country can return to rationality and the path of reconstruction,” the politician said in an interview with Channel 12. “The government must be overthrown. The war will not end without parliamentary elections”, he stressed.

Days ago, in an opinion article published in the Haaretz newspaper, Olmert accused Netanyahu of treason for prolonging the aggression against Gaza without a concrete date for its end.

He also questioned his plans to “attempt to expand the war and start a direct and comprehensive military confrontation with (the Lebanese group) Hezbollah in the north.”

Regarding the West Bank, Olmert warned that the policies adopted by the current Executive will provoke a new Palestinian uprising.

Almost simultaneously, in an article published in The New York Times, former Prime Minister Ehud Barack also criticized the invitation of the US Congress to Netanyahu, who will soon address the legislators, even though many Democrats plan to boycott the event.
