“Today (…) is a historic day, because the protocol of adhesion of the Plurinational State of Bolivia to MERCOSUR is put into effect”, the Minister of Justice, Iván Lima, said in a press conference the day before.
The authority pointed out that from now on Bolivia must comply with its obligations and has four years to adapt to the regulations defined by the Treaty of Asuncion, the Protocol of Olivos and the MERCOSUR Constitutive Protocol.
On July 8, President Luis Arce delivered in Asunción to his Paraguayan counterpart, Santiago Peña, the document ratifying Bolivia’s Protocol of Accession to MERCOSUR at the 64th Ordinary Meeting of its Council.
Arce enacted on the 4th of that month Law 1567 ratifying the Protocol of Accession of the Plurinational State to the integrationist bloc, signed on July 17, 2015, and with the delivery to Peña he fulfilled the step of placing it in the depositary country.
