The assessment was expressed by the leaders in a telephone conversation in which Putin congratulated Lam on his recent election as general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPC).

During the dialogue, the Russian head of state expressed confidence that To Lam will lead the Party, the State and the Vietnamese people to greater successes in the process of Party building and the development of a prosperous country.

The Vietnamese top leader, for his part, thanked Putin for his congratulations and affirmed that the Indochinese nation persists in its foreign policy in favor of independence, self-determination, multilateralization and diversification of its relations.

In particular, To Lam was quoted as saying by the VNA news agency, Vietnam attaches importance to consolidating and developing the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia, considering it a priority in its foreign policy.
