Ex Panamanian ambassador demands Cuba’s removal from terrorist list

Panama City, Sep 6 (Prensa Latina) Former Panamanian ambassador to Cuba Reinaldo Rivera, today demanded that the United States government exclude the island from a spurious list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

The diplomat, who is back from his second term in the Island nation, estimated that this measure imposed at the end of Donald Trump’s administration (2017-2021) and has been maintained by Joe Biden, intensifies the blockade imposed more than six decades ago, a hostile policy that has proven to be a total failure.

Rivera indicated he is joining the world demand spearheaded by French-Spanish journalist Ignacio Ramonet ‘s open letter, addressed to the US president.

Rivera said he had called on Biden to do an act of justice at the end of his mandate for the benefit of the Cuban people, something right in the eyes of the world and part of the American people.

Other Panamanians personalitieswho signed the letter were historian Jaime Flores, writer César del Vasto, painter Roy Arcia, teacher Olmedo Beluche, from Polo Ciudadano organization, and the dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Panama, Hernando Franco.

In his open letter, Ramonet indicated that regardless of the tensions that may have existed between the United States and Cuba in 65 yeras, not a single case of violent action that occurred on U.S. soil that was sponsored, directly or indirectly, by Havana.
