The national political advisor of “Nuevas Ideas” Movement, Silvio Aquino, says that this “won’t go unpunished,” referring to the death of several police officers traveling in a helicopter, as part of a much-hyped mission to capture again former manager of the Santa Victoria Cooperative (COSAVI), Manuel Coto Barrientos, who had embezzled US$ 35 million.
President Nayib Bukele’s remarks that he will seek international support to investigate the tragedy, adding that the incident would not go unpunished, did not go unheeded for locals.
The death of three high-ranking police officers, four others of lower rank and the head of communications of the Ministry of Public Security, led Aquino to echo Bukele’s statement.
“It will take time for us to assimilate that today could be the beginning of a fight on a different level. If suspicions turn out to be true, we would be facing an attack on high-ranking officials in the security cabinet,” wrote the national political advisor for “Nuevas Ideas.”
The chopper crashed in a mountainous area of San Eduardo canton, Pasaquina District, La Union Norte, in the middle of a storm and thunders. Neighbors witnessed the aircraft’s erratic flight before it crashed into a hill.
